Zenergi - Illustration system

Zenergi struggled to differentiate itself visually due to its use of generic stock imagery common among competitors. The Marketing Director sought to shift away from this trend toward more inclusive and distinctive branding. An external agency evaluation revealed Zenergi's brand as overly masculine and lacking inclusivity.

To address these issues, I researched successful brands using illustration to simplify complex messages and proposed a unique illustrative style for Zenergi. Recognising the power of illustrations in enhancing brand relatability and accessibility, I began creating diverse elements on Adobe Illustrator, ensuring consistency and building a library for wider company use.

Once I had created a variety of characters, I moved onto other assets that I felt could be regularly used to create scenes like buildings, nature, technology and industry specific assets. I used our product sheets and information from the Zenergi website to create a list.

The energy industry is full of complex and challenging terms; illustrations reduce cognitive load and help people to understand important information more easily. The illustrations received positive feedback for simplifying complex concepts. Ultimately, I developed nearly 100 elements incorporated into updated Brand Guidelines, alongside a user-friendly image library and a ticketing system for internal requests. By the end of my tenure, the library expanded to over 1000 assets, allowing for limitless variations and ensuring brand consistency across all departments.
